  1. Default Looking for help finding right equipment

I'm looking to set up a 250 gallon sps reef aquarium with many fish. I would like to get some help finding the right equipment i'll need. 1ST what type of live sand should I buy? 2ND what type of live rock should I buy? 3RD what type of filter heater and all other equipment should I get.(I was looking for two submersible heaters) and 4TH what kind of tank should i get?

  2. Default

Live sand... don't. Buy dry aragonite, it will become live with time.
Live rock... Best advice is to look for local clubs and someone tearing down a tank. A 250 will require a bunch of rock so $2/lb is a TON better than $7/lb.
3rd... This depends on your budget. A 250G SPS reef is on the fuhspensive end of the scale typically. MH lighting, huge skimmer, PHs, controller, reactors, doo dah, doo dah. Easily into the thousands even buying used.
Tank... look on craigslist and any local club sites. Maybe you'll find a fairly priced complete set up.

    Good luck!
Save the rivers and reefs... buy captive raised whenever possible!

  3. Default tank

Here's the tank I'm looking at:

250 Gallon Deep Dimension Standard w/60" Double Strip Light
    60" x 36" x 63-1/2" high
Includes: Aquarium with Corner-Flo Filtration, 60" x 36" Glass Canopy, Monterey Stand, Monterey Canopy, 60" Double Strip Light, 2-250 watt Stealth Heaters, Stick-on Digital Thermometer, 2-Maxi-Jet 5500 Pumps, Model 4 Acrylic Sump Filtration System, Plumbing Accessory Kit, and Instructional DVD.

250 Gallon Deep Dimension Pro w/60" Marine Pro Lighting
Includes: Complete 250 Gallon Standard upgraded with 60", 516W Marineland Pro Lighting 24-Hour Lighting System.

you can check it out at www.FosterandSmithAquatics.com under the aquarium section its the Marineland Monterey Deep Dimension Super Systems w/LiveAquaria.com Gift Certificate

Aha.. height of the stand and canopy... sorry, I get distracted by math. ;)

SWEET tank! I'd still look used myself but if you're gonna buy new, nice choice. On a tank that large, dual overflows would seem pretty important. Otherwise your total potential turnover is going to be significantly reduced.

  7. Default k

k thx i'm looking for one with everything included so I think that is most likely the one I will go with.
