Bad week for the fish!
Last week I purchased 12 neons expecting to loose perhaps 2-3 because they were so small. I lost 7! I also bought 5 neons rainbows that were ill and I lost 4 of them including one I had for a year.
This morning I removed one glowlight from the tank that was FAT, totally stressed out and almost white .....appeared to be egg bound. That's 12 dead fish in a week!
I seldom lose a fish and have had the same tetra's for 4 years. I've had parrots that lived for 8 years .......so DOH!
$70 for fish and I have only been able to recoup $30 since some could not be found. The remaining fish are quite happy and healthy but what a kick in the pants.
YES! My water is fine. Perfect. I'm just ranting.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

As long as it was only new fish, guess I won't fret and chalk it up to some crappy stock and be glad all existing fish are fine. I feel so stupid returning dead fish, tho. This is only the second time I've had to do that but they look at you like you're stupid or something.

out of curiosity LH, did this occur after the neons were introduced? Just asking because I lost 50 new tetras a few weeks back, same situation as you are describing. I had to order 25g of medicine from fishyfharmacy last night that was 75 bucks for the 25g for gill flukes. the tank was 100% healthy perfect until those damn neons started spreading disease and famine around.
I am furious as I have discus with this now and those fish cost a pretty penny.
I got all my money back, I took all the tetras I bought that week back and was told they wouldnt refund due to my discus giving these fish a disease. Sad too because I was great friends with all the managers there plus the district manager, I got ALOT of pets and spend alot weekly there on toys, food, organic catnip and fish/turtle stuff.
I am sorry for your loss and frustration believe me I am relating to it all too well for the past 3 weeks.

I'm very sorry about your fish. It's happened to me too.
I had a bad moment yesterday too...I was cleaning the 55g and accidentally sucked up a loach. It must have broke it's back in the process.
I felt sick. I've had them for about 3 years now I think and I'm very fond of them. I can tell them apart. I worried about them during the last ich outbreak...breathed a sigh of relief when they made it...
...and then killed one.

If you lost 50, then I will not complain for sure! I lost 43 neons once and can relate, believe me. I had 23 that were doing just great and added 20 more to the tank and that was my downfall. A few developed Ick and so I started treating the tank and I think the medication was instrumental in wiping out the rest of them. They don't take kindly to medication at full doses and another problem, I think, is that they are on the market WAY too small.
Your store knows you are experienced and know your fish. To not give you anything for your loss is not good business practice at all. Those fish probably cost them 10 cents each and not worth losing a good customer over.

It happens and makes you feel bad, for sure. I darned near sucked up a cory last week. He hit that tube and THUNK.......but managed to get free. You'd think they'd know enough to move! I once was cleaning the gravel and stabbing in the tube here and there and cut a platie right in half. OOPS

I did the same bloody thing with 2 of my harlequins yesterday during a WC, first one went up the python tube so i turned the valve off to stop suction, pulled him out and put him back in then not 5 seconds later a different one *slurp thud* up he went too. both ok and swimming normally but come on give me a break, my heart stopped for a bit thinking they "bought the big lake in the sky"
Sorry bout your week though Lady losing fish always sucks.
I myself am having fairly good luck this week, a new beautiful 6" oscar and 2 female juvie salvini's16 tanks and counting
The more i look at your tank the more i want your tank in my tank!

Im about to loose a marlboro snakeskin discus from this. Its upsetting to me because now I have to drive an additional 15 miles to the closest LFS I can trust.

Promise, sometimes I now hold a net over the end of the tube if just sucking out water but in my case I was trying to suck out the *&#$%@ snails.
WhiteDevil.......this is really far more consequences in your case than only losing the neons. I so hope your Discus will recover. My complaint has been minimal compared to yours.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••
