  1. Default 40g breeder or 55g?

I am thinking of going to just one fish tank and its going to be a community saltwater reef tank. Would a 40g breeder be better since its much wider than the 55 gallon? Would most fish benefit from the extra length of the 55 gallon? Neither of these set-up would require a sump system correct?

    IMO

Have you done saltwater before? Perhaps collecting material for a native marine tank? It's a great experience. :)

The 55g. The extra water volume will help you get away without sump.

What filtration did you have in mind? My 20 gallon have a HOB and a intank powered by a 80gph pond pump. That way my filter acts as another powerhead too.

    80 Gallon: Native Temperate Reef

5 Gallon Native Temperate Invert tank

20 Gallon Planted: Cherry Barbs, Common Pleco, Floating frog, Fire Bellied Newt

10 Gallon Planted: Apple Snails/Cherry Barb Breeder.... fingers crossed

In some places it is illegal to collect marine life so you should check your local laws first.

Sorry, good point. Those are mostly tropical areas, no? Not a problem for me! :)

I have a 20 gallon up and running right now. I found a nice 65g set-up for sale that I am looking into since it has lights and all with it.

Live rock does the bio filtration so a Fluval 405 should be fine on this with a HOB skimmer correct? The set-up comes with a sump system but dont know if I can fit it under the stand I have for it.
