Xingu River disscusion
Wickipedia has a very interesting page on the Xingu river in Brazil. Some of the Big bend fishes, which are endemic to this area will probably go extinct. L46 Hypancistrus zebra for instance. I think the Belo Monte Dam dam will be pushed through regardless. Money is power down there.
Do we have any Brazilian members here, i would love to here a firsthand opinion.

Be it pleco's in a river or an entire rainforest ecosystem mankind is totally determined to destroy the balance of nature. Sooner or later the destruction will tip the balance past the point of no return, if it hasn't already been reached, and there will be a cascade of extinctions.
That is, assuming a nuclear war doesn't do it faster. It's pretty ridiculous that mankind is on a one-way track to becoming one of the biggest disasters in the history of the planet.

C. S. Lewis once stated that he believed there are only two things that motivate men. Fear and Greed. I don't like to admit it but it seems to be true. I even recognize it in my own personality now. Scary to think on, but interesting to say the least. Some will no dought label us doomsdayersidiottypes. That may be easy when they look at my posts sometimes but it took years of effort to become the mess that you see. That is a line from an old song I love. Called rattle snake highway/John Fogerty I Think.
