Default RANT! What is wrong with the feed store!!!

So the other day my dad went to the tri-parish co op and got me three bales of hay. He doesn't know to look at it, but when he got home and I took one look I knew I couldn't feed it to my horse. It smelled musty and had mold on it.

Today I went out to feed my baby (yearling) his supper. I gave him the last of the bag I had and opened the new bag my mom got to get ready for his breakfast. As soon as the bag opened it smelled like rancid, fermenting grain!!!!!! It was seriously sour smelling... and this is pelleted feed. DRY feed, no molasses to spoil... But it smelled awful! UGH!!!!!!!!!!!!! And naturally my mom did not keep the receipt. (I can't go because of my work schedule)

So poor thing won't get his breakfast on time because my mom has to go get a new bag. This time we are getting his feed at Tractor Supply. His hay now comes from a different feed store but they don't carry his feed because they are a nutrena dealer and he is fed purina mills.

    UGH!!!

    K I'm done.

I'd take it back anyway. If that bag was rancid, they probably had several returned to them.

We are! AND I hope people are bringing it back. A lot of people around here probably don't pay attention... then again the are also probably feeding much cheaper feed.

Most do pay attention to what they feed their animals. If they open up a rancid bag of food it will be noticed!lol That stuff smells nasty.
The store should understand if you are a regular there.
How hot has it been there. Is it possible that had something to do with it?
The hay was probably stored wet.

Be there done that!!!!! I only use small town feed store(s) to purchase my ranch feed.... With several horses feed goes fast. I am sure the feed store will take back your spoiled feed without no problem. I hear you on having to buy your feed at different stores...I have a mare on special diet and her feed coast 30.00 bucks per bag! Thankfully we cut our coastal field to provided hay for the cattle. And we purchase the huge Alfa bales for the horses.

Your baby will be okay getting his breakfast alittle later than normal.... He'll sure be glad to see you on the next feeding.

    Keep up the great work

That feed store needs to get after their distributor. Rancid food will kill an animal or at the least cause some high vet bills. This should make you very angry and I'd be on them like white on rice.

Well this place stores their feed outside in a warehouse type area... it has been hot and humid so that probably has to do with it.

Tractor supply keeps their feed in a climate controlled area.

Got it all straight :) He was very happy for his breakfast at brunch LOL
