Internet use...who knew there was a hierarchy???
Okay...I admit to being on-line too much. But it's not interfering with anything else...I make sure of that.
My daughter came home the other day and told me that she had mentioned to her friends (18-year old girls who will be Graduating in a couple of weeks) that I 'talked' on the forums.
The girls all felt that this was very sad. That I must be lonely to spend time on the computer and not out in the real world.
I'm starting to feel like the cat-lady down the road...(except I hope I smell better).
LOL...Hello? This comment from girls that I know do very little? They all text, Facebook and spend hours and hours watching TV. Most have part-time jobs, and they party a bit...but I find it very funny that they think I'm not part of the real world and that they are.
Have forums become 'old-school'? Personally, I'd rather have some kind of conversation (forums) vs. the innanity I see on Facebook/Twitter/texting...

Umm first off I say like the Romans said "Nothing in excess" ..that goes a long way with just about anything you do.
Next I say yes unfortunately with the latest generation forums are getting Old School but its a sad commentary of society. Its like everyone has ADHD.
Nothing is fast enough or easy enough. More More more..lol So let me understand, its now not ok to converse with people about meaningful things in your life its just better to throw passing comments about what you wore today into the great void for any and all to comment. Well I say as the speed goes up and the content goes down , the quality goes down as well.
With Twitter and Facebook type communications you talk at people not with them.
Personally I put a lot more value in conversations centered around a cause or hobby than conversations just for the sake of conversation.
Ok I lied about the rant...well it was just a baby rant...lol

My mom uses Facebook more than I do. She is in her 60's. She asks me did you see the post... did you see this... did you see that... I'm like no I haven't looked in about a week. She gets upset when I don't read her posts and my Aunt whom is moving in with us from Reno, NV...that I have never met... got the impression I didn't like her because I never comment on her posts... Good Grief!

Same here, My mother, in he early 50's uses facebook every literal waking minute, I check it every day or every other maybe a week goes by.
Forums are much more entertaining then TV and teenagers.
My wife rants about my fish forums, but always came to me when her guppies were strange acting or giving birth(she called her mom halfway across the country to tell her she had baby guppies, after that they were put off on me lol)
I tend to stick to the forums more then websites due to instant help at times and the loads of priceless information.
betcha those teenagers dont even know what Ph is.

Oh Rue... the follies of those kids.
Facebook and Myspace are like the AOL/Geocities pages of this generation. 90% of them are poorly laid out so your eyes bleed, and load up annoying music that takes you far too long to find out how to turn off. It is the latest in "lookit me I'm on the internet!"
Forums are more of a longevity item on the internet. They will continue to evolve but will probably always have value since they are a cluster of individuals that will grow and change as the topic grows and changes.
Facebook is only interesting for as long as you are interested in the people; and let's face it.. there is a reason you haven't spoken to some of those people in YEARS. People grow and change and whom is dating whom is no longer the most interesting thing in your life.
So Rue.. you aren't crazy cat lady... you are just wiser and not following the latest internet fad!
