  1. Default not sure what to do...

so as most of you know I have the fluval up and running. The water is crazy cloudy!!! I'm guessing it's going through a mini cycle, from all the new media (I did add all the biomax from the old filters though as well.) I'm not sure what to do, it does look like the fish are gasping quite a bit as well. I know the fx5 is supposed to make the water super clear, but right now it's not even close to being clear. Help! (going to take water tests right now)

    here are the params...

ammonia - slight colour in the test nowhere near the 0.6 mark, but my guess would be 0.25

    nitrite - 0
    nitrate - 5

The fish are gasping quite a lot. I am going to do a 50% water change, and see if it helps.

Im guessing it is dust from the biomax should clear soon enough.

Here is a tip on being able to tell when your fish are gasping. When things settle down and the water clears up, what you do is you watch their gill /mouth movements and you count the # of times in 30 secs. That is the fishes respiration. Now If you remember that number or write it down it is different for different fish) you can do the same test when you think there is a problem and compare the numbers to see if they are indeed breathing faster. I only mention this because I sometimes get paranoid myself when there is a stressful event but usually when I measure the respiration I see it is pretty close to normal...lol

  6. Cool Oxy

Is there enough surface agitation to ensure prpoer water oxygen content?
