My common pleco just died (unknown reason) and i was wondering what was the best algae eating pleco. It doesn't matter how big he gets, or what he looks like...any suggestions?

Well, with a 25 gallon tank, there are only two that i know of. Bristle nosed and rubber nosed (lipped)

Well, if you want a big pleco, be prepared to do 75% water changes twice a week, plus risk a large mini-cycle upon adding them.

trust me, its not worth it. I used to breed plecos, and raise them to sell. I had 2 5" commons i took care of since birth in my old 33g and a baby clown pleco i bought. Once, i found a common with literally 3 feet of waste still stuck to him. It was allover the tank. You definitely are best to go with a small one like a bristle or rubber

I have had a couple of bristlenose plecos and can attest to the fact that those guys NEVER stop eating algae!
Has anyone had bristle nose and rubberlips for approximately the same time frame to compare their algae eating capabilities? I have heard that many pleco's will stop eating algae after a certain age/size. Since I have only ever had bristlenose I don't have a comparison.

I once had a rubberlip and bristle, and they all switched only to algae wafers. All my plecos pretty much only wanted wafers
