puffer fish in community tank?
hi i just got a puffer fish given to me a baby. Don't know anything about them. Put him in my community tank and now started to read online stuff about them and am terrified to have him. Heard they are very freindly to people but that the wreck havoc in the tank that they aren't good tank mates and try to eat the other fish....HELP
Any advice on this I don't want to wake up in the morningand find my fish dead and eaten. or mauled..
Also read that they have to be kept in saltwater but all I have it freshwater what should I do?

Do you know what species it is? Or, can you provide a description and/or photo? We'll need to know the exact species to provide accurate information, but unfortunately it's a pretty good bet that it won't do well in a community tank - or rather that the rest of your community won't do well with it!

Here is some info on green spotted puffers:

in particular, note that they actually require brackish water, not fresh water, and that they're listed as very aggressive. I'm afraid your only good options are to set up a new tank just for your puffer, or find someone else that has the proper setup for it.300 gallon mega tank: build in progress

Green spotted puffers (GSP) aren't suited for typical peaceful community tanks as they can become fin nippers or worse: predatory.
Eventually they will also require brackish water conditions (though will do fine in full salt water conditions as well).
In SW tanks I've had GSP get along with other fish with similar temperments.

Don't be scared of it but do get it another tank.A 29gal should be fine for it.You should not have anything else with it.
Why did they give you that fish?Ray
