I thought that I should introduce Sherlock, my illegal rodent pet. Since I live in a dorm I'm not supposed to have any pets, fish are fine, but when I was at Petsmart getting some stuff for Witkin I couldn't pass him up. I used to have rats, and always loved their company. This is the first male rat I've ever owned, and I think I'm going to stick with males from now on. They're much more mellow and keen on just snuggling, which is pretty adorable.

Thank you. That's too bad you're allergic. They are just amazing little pets. Actually, as I type this, I have Sherlock hunkered down in my lap for a nice grooming session.

I lol'ed at the pic with him and the pipe. Kinda makes me want to have a pet rat but the fish are keeping me busy enough for now i guess.

Adorable little guy. But he’s going to have to quite smoking that pipe if your going to be able to hide him in your dorm.
If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I've gotten him to cut down on the pipe quite a bit. I still allow him to indulge at night by smoking out the window.

As for rats, they really aren't much work. You just have to clean their cage once a week, make sure they have fresh food and water available, let them run around somewhere... For the little amount of work they are, they give a lot back.

I used to have 13 rats. I love rats. They are so sweet and very intelligent.

I rather preferred males to females, also.

The females were extremely prone to abscesses.

Males lived longer, but watching the girls carry on together was such a riot.

Before Sherlock I had three females, on a rotating basis. I had one, then I got her a friend, then the first one died, so I got the second one a friend. After that my mom said enough rats, but ironically after meeting Sherlock she's dying to get a new one.

Their life span is rather unfortunate, but I suppose it goes with the theory that anything that loving doesn't need much time to learn life's lessons. That, or they're just extremely inbred little animals. Either way, I love them.

I love him, he's gorgeous! Rats are some of the most cuddly animals on earth.. I think they're just barely beaten out by guinea pigs (but I'm biased, I have 3 pigs and no rats). Give Sherlock a kiss for me!

    Good luck not getting caught.
