Thread: Feeding of Fish

  1. Smile Feeding of Fish

Is feeding of fish based on volume of fish or based on time the fish eat food. I'm feeding alot of fish and at different levels in the tank. Top feeders, middle feeders and bottom feeders. I'm well aware of over feeding and the problems that can occur with that. My question since I'm feeding alot of fish is twice a day enough. They devour everything I put in their. It seems like their always hungry. Should I feed less more often? Currently it is working but I was just kinda wondering are my fish getting enough food?

The only way to know for sure is to watch them eat.
If all your fish are getting enough food to eat for a minute or two, they should be fine.
If some are not getting any then try to spot feed.Get the food down to those fish so they can eat.
Do they all get the same food?

Fish are ALWAYS hungery. I have my 30 right next to the computer. The ruby barbs swim back and forth whenever I am on the computer waiting for food. Even if they where just feed, or just ate more of my plants. Twice a day should be plenty, and it is always good to fast one day a week too. Just make sure all your fish are eating. If any look thin try to target feed. In my 55 I have P. buffei (a small type of catfish, similar to glass cats) and I never see them eat, but thier bellies are always round and full, so I do not worry about them. They are eating.

Man,my angelfish and red tail shark could eat me under the table. I drop a Hikari algae wafer in there once in awhile, mind you I have to break it up in small pieces or they'll explode, and the RTS and angel both look like they're going to pop. Then they beg for more. Little piggies!
