Use only aquarium safe silicone.
It should state on the container that it is safe for aquarium useIf you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

I'm just starting the same thing in my aquarium only I will be installing a circulation pump with the flow directed down the back of the rock formation. Plan to interrupt the flow at it proceeds down the wall to vent the tunnels and allow ventilation for the different flat rocks that I will be putting Anemones on
