There are others out there too!
I just bought one for my 10 gallon nano reef... I am probably going to return and get a new one.... What do you recomend?
What are your thoughts on the blowing up heaters? Are you still going to buy marineland heaters?
I just wanted to post this as a warning!
EDIT: I was thinking about maybe getting the new visi therm one (to replace the stealth pro) but after reading these, Im not sure about buying the new marineland heaters....Last edited by EmmanuelJB; 03-06-2010 at 03:03 AM.

I've been buying stealth heaters to replace the various other brands in my tanks as they die because the stealths have a lifetime warranty. Only one of them is a stealth pro model from an e-bay auction, I actually expected a regular stealth when I bid on it. Looks like I'll be placing some plastic canvas around that heater in case it blows up, but I don't think it's really likely.
Any heater will fail eventually, it's just a question of whether it will go out cold or hot. I've been lucky enough that none of mine have cooked a tank when they died. I just notice that the temp is too low and the heater isn't working any longer.

Unplug your heater before a water change.Thats a great way to prevent a heater from exploding.

Hmmm. I had gotten one of those for the 10g. It's been bugging me that it keeps a collection of bubbles on it, whereas the heater in my 5g (differing brand) does not.
Maybe I'll just go ahead and replace it.

The pro model seems to be a lot less reliable but if that heater was a older type, the damage probably would have been much worse. That being said I probably will stick with the visi-therm models.
I dont use heaters in most cases anymore but when I do I use the Visi-therm stealth models, and they are the only heaters I buy if I need new ones. They are the safest heater on the market from what I have seen.
I agree that all heaters are going to go, the reason I recommend stealth heaters is they are generally less likely to go catastrophically.

Ouch, I just bought two of these heaters, one that is currently being used in my ten gallon and the other for my seventy five gallon that is still a work in progress.

Just Great. I have one in my 50gal reef tank, and a new one in the fish stuff box as a spare.
thanks for the heads up Emmanuel.
Looks like external heaters are going to be my thing from now on. They may still cook your fish, but if they blow up it won't hurt the tank!Last edited by sheamurai; 03-06-2010 at 02:08 PM.

I have 3 setting here waiting for tanks.
On the positive side Marineland is reimbursing people for all damages/lossesAs I get older I find myself thinking about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Just damages to JUST the heater right? They wont reimburs people for a shaddered tank, loss of expensive marine fish/ corals, a burned out filter, a ruined floor, etc.

If I can order Im not sure what brand im going to get... I was thinking maybe the new visitherme one they came out with.

What do bubbles mean on a heater? I notice in my 60 gallon that my regular stealth heater gets bubbles once in a while...
