  1. Default Ball Python rescue

    0 Not allowed!
Yesterday I drove all day (couple hundred mile round trip) to rescue a huge 15 year old female ball python! She is a little thin, but is otherwise a beautiful, gentle, big girl. She's between 5 1/2 and 6 foot long! For anyone who knows Ball Pythons...that is BIG! I'll try to get some pics of her here shortly!

Yay! So glad you rescued her! Was she in a really bad place? What's their age span?

Thanks! She's a great snake and deserves the best!

20-30 years is average...40+ is not terribly uncommon.

I have seen snakes in worse places, but she was definitely not cared for as they should be. Her humidity was way too low and they did not provide her with a hide box. These two husbandry issues alone probably lead to her poor feeding habbits. They said she would always refuse food or just kill it, then not eat it. They also said she would only eat black and white rats (I found this humorous). I brought her home, soaked her in a warm bath (to get her stuck shed off), then let her settle for the day in her new enclosure. Late last night I offered her food (not a black and white rat)...she ate it within seconds. Poor girl must have been starving! She is still acting quite hungry, but I don't want to overload her...we'll take things slow.

You'd think after 15 years they'd know better. Guess they got tired of her.

I'm glad she's shed and has eaten!

Now we need the pictures! Post one of you holding her...I wanna get a feel of her size...how much does she weigh? Name?

Her name is Delilah. I'm going to weigh her tonight, so no answer there yet.

Like I said...she is quite a bit underweight. I have nobody here at the moment to take a photo against for size, but this is her in the tub.

Beautiful girl. She looks abit thin but not bad(from the photo). Most people way over feed thier snakes. Good thing you got her. When I was working in a pet store I heard all kinds of crazy things. Like the snake(bermese) would only eat female rats, or only white mice(or rats), only black mice.... And on and on. Really makes you wonder sometimes.

Pretty girl! And that's great for giving me a good idea of her size! Thank you!

Well - my snake ONLY eats the rats if I 'dance' them for her...she doesn't care about colour at all...but they gotta be dancing...
