5-6'' Soon to be new guy

I've decided on a silver. the LFS stocks them at about 5-6''. How long should I watch this guy in the store for problems? A couple days? I can go everyday if I have to. And should i go with the most aggressive, or the one hiding in the corner?

Silver aro need a large tank no matter what size they are.
How big is your tank?
I would go with the one that swims a lot and has no scars or marks on the body.

As Rich said make sure it eats. Which technically covers NG's suggestion too.

I noticed in your profile you listed a 75g as to be your Arowana tank, just abit of friendly advice, he won't be in there for too long. They grow very quickly and as adults need a 225g+ in my opinion. I would be using a 125 minimum as a grow out tank. A standard 75G is 4ft long, they can grow to 2ft on their own, but don't forget they need to be able to turn around and they like alot of swimming space.

Unless you're planning on getting a very large tank very soon I think you'll need to re-think your stratergy abit

Definitely go for the one who eats aggressively. It's a bonus if they're eating prepared foods and a variety. As stated above, tank size needs to be big, your 5" aro will be over a foot in no time.
