Thread: Tank Issues

  1. Default Tank Issues

So ill just give you facts to speed this long
Cycling a 75 gallon tank used feeder fish
Tank was done cycling fish got ick and died
Treated the tank x2 for ick
    2x 80% WC

    ammonia 0
    Nitrite 0
    nitrite 0

Added 2 comet goldfish into the 75 gallon left them there for 8 hours
Came home the fish were just floating there (alive!) their tails look like they have fin rot from some of the images on google search they also look (please excuse me for incorrect term usage) ashey (sp?)
Like their skin was whiteish and looked like they needed lotion.
I moved them back to the old tank
The water is crystal clear and still 0,0,0 stats

Im not to familiar with fish illness since this is my first

Im heading to bed ill check and answer any questions tomorrow Thanks AC

If your tank is properly cycled you should have SOME nitrates.
    75 gallon planted
    5 gallon planted betta sorority
Lack of planning on your part doesn't justify an emergency on my part.

Even after an 80% water change you should still show a small reading of nitrates. Nitrates are what your bacteria are changing everything to. So, if you have 0 ammonia and 0 nitrites you should still have a small reading of nitrates. The only way that would change is to do a 100% water change and test immediately after. And even then???

Im sorry but after 2x 80% WC I do not expect to see any Nitrates since it goes Ammonia>Nitrite>Nitrate

So it would take a couple of days to see any signs of Nitrates
