Try looking on youtube for any video. As far as any missing parts go a lot of the parts for a fluval 305 will fit on the 304. If you can't find them go to the hagen web site and you can order them there.
Here is a link to the manual http://www.hagen.com/pdf/aquatic/Fluval04new.pdfSailor

As far as I know the only 305 parts that changed (from the 304) are the lift locks. Pack the media baskets with coarse stuff on the bottom, "floss" works well in the middle, and use the top one for ceramic biomedia if you have some. I pour water down the intake hose to fill the canister, with the outflow hose hanging over a bucket sitting a bit higher than the canister. When water runs into the bucket I place the hoses on the tank and use the priming plunger to pump most of the air out of the canister. If it doesn't pump water just turn the canister over to release the trapped air.

One of these came w my 125g craigslist purchase.
Its a great filter- easy to use and its super quiet. I really like it. Its not big enough for the tank though, so I bought a 405 off of ebay. I plan on adding that to the tank as well.
Looks like lady hobbs posted the link to the manual- I have it downloaded as well. If you need a copy let me know.

Yea i need alot of help with this thing. I cant even open it. Ive messed with the unlatching parts and either its a tight fit or im not doin it right. I can even open it.
Is there a way to test it out with the hoses? Before i order them.

It has probably been closed for a long time and the seal has swollen or sticking closed. I had one that was really hard to open without using a screwdriver to pry it open. I put vasoline on the seal and it's been fine since.
I hook mine up, leave it unplugged but with both levers in the down position (on) on the front of the canister and fill using the prime lever. Once full, it will stop bubbling and then I just plug the unit in.Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

Thanks i got it open. I went to open of those links and held it real tight and it came off. I put water in it and looked at all the media inside and turned it on filled with water twice just to make sure the water pumped. So now i just need to get the hoses and stick them to the glass. And i just reliezed i also need the pump head piece that the hoses hook up too

I got one. Works pretty good. No trouble opening it but it is really hard to shut properly. My cousin who gave it to me said that he broke the clamps twice shutting it.
