The 18" fixture comes with little slide out legs that you can put on top of a glass cover, or put over the edge of the tank if you go topless.

Would the light fixture from Dr.Foster and Smith do the same thing to? And the legs would go over the edge of the tank even though it's 20 inches and the fixture is only 18"??

The Bio Active one is Aragonite... should I use that then?

I am not familiar with that fixture so I don't really know. I don't see any legs mentioned in the description.

I have used the 18" fixture that I mentioned on a 10g and it works with or without a glass top. The legs slide out to fit a 20" width if you go topless. If not, the legs rest on the glass top, and the width of the legs doesn't matter.

They both seem extremly similar to me... Which one seems better to you?
Also... I am going to be using a glass top... In the description of the light from Dr. F&S it says cannot sit directly on a tank or glass top so I am assuming it comes with legs...

Was your tank a standard 10 gallon? Because this was one of the reviews from the link you gave me:

"When i bought this light,i assumed the legs would adjust to fit a standard 10 gallon tank 20", Think again... Buyer beware if your idea is to buy this light for a standard 10gal tank IT WILL NOT FIT!!! Other than that at least the light worked so 2 stars.
I would not recommend this product to my friends."

I wander if the one from Dr F&S is the same way.....

I don't know what that reviewer was thinking? It worked fine on my 10g? Perhaps they changed the legs at some point?

Do you still need argonite? Where are you in Maine? I live in NH on the Maine/ NH border. I've got a good 30-40 lbs of clean, dry argonite left over when I did our 75 gallon. I can sell it to you at a decent price. Let me know

    29 gallon-planted community

    20 long frag tank
    75 gal-planted goldfish

75 gallon mixed reef with 20 gallon sump
