  1. Default Carbon Or No Carbon

Hi everyone I have an established 125 gal fw tank it has some plants (no c02 system) I am running 2 rena xp3s with the usual biostars, filter pads and carbon in each. I would like to replace the carbon with biostars and ceramic rings. any thoughts on pro vs cons or anyone who is running without carbon. thank you for your help in advance.

There is no need to run carbon, except to remove color, toxins or medicne. You can safely remove it.

I run a Rena Xp3 on my 55gal with no carbon and added bio rings. Seems to work fine, been that way for 5 years now.

No carbon here... like what was said above; only good for removing meds or tannins.

Same here, quit using it after reading how it can cause problems when it is used too long.
