Sponge filters do a good job, you may need more than 1.
I've heard of people keeping 15-18 WC Frontosa with nothing but 5-6 sponge filters

Where do you live? Hang on back power filters are very inexpensive, and work great. $100+ dollars is only for nice canister filters.
That being said, more flow (bigger air pump or water pump depending on how it's powered) and a larger sponge will increase the abilities of a sponge filter.Foshizzle.

I ran a sponge filter in a goldfish tank for years before I had a clue what I was doing...
I was lucky...sponge filters are excellent...just remember to rinse them in used tank water and don't let them dry out at all when you clean them...55 g Goldfish Tank - 5 Fancies, 2 Dojos
