How much should I sell this setup for....
So, I have a 55g tank, used as a Freshwater and made the choice to purchase a pre-sunk 55g for a new Saltwater (has pre-holes for sump etc, I didnt fancy the siphon overflow system).
So I have a load of stuff I want to sell in a bundle. I am thinking of listing it on Craigslist for $450. Tell me what you think...
- 55g Freshwater tank (empty, cleaned with water, no chemicals used, all silicon in great condition, no scratches or marks)
- Marineland dual bio-wheel, Penguin 350 Filter with spare filter cartridges and carbon (used on this tank)
- 'Bridge' and 'Colosseum' tank ornaments
- Master Liquid test kit (hardly used, with clean vials and cards)
- Small unused bottle of water bacteria
- 50lbs of mixed blue gravel (drained but not cleaned)
- Heater (little dirty but still works, adjustable temp range)
- 2x Air Pumps (one for a 55g and the other suitable for a 10g)
- Large bag of artificial plants (some 20+ items, some large, some small)
- Large algae scrubber
- Medium fish net
- Tank Hoods with working blue lights
- Unopened fish flake food sachets, plus large recently opened flake food tub
I am pretty sure thats everything, just need water and fish and its a complete set ready to go really. Thoughts? Will I get $450 for it?10g - 4 Tiger Barbs, 2 Albino Tiger Barbs
10g - 10 Cardinal Tetra's
37g - 2 Gold Angelfish, 1 Peacock Eel, 1 Pleco, 5 Skirt Tetra's, 5 Blue Tetra's
55g - New Seahorse Reef Tank Coming Soon!

Unless your giving a stand along with it, I doubt your going to get that much. You can always try...but my 2cents says it wont happen.
I bought my 55 gallon off of craigs list, it came with 4 power heads, 2 stock filters, half a dozen air pumps, heater, complete stock hood with bulbs. It came with a stand that retails at over 200$. Its all wood, very light weight.
I got at least 70 pounds of gravel, and enough filters to fill both my filters twice, an assortment of fake plants and decoration. Even got a 18 inch pleco and 2 gold fish (I got rid of them all now)
Granted everything is old and worn, but the stand is in very good condition, and the tank scratches are very minimal.
Got all that for 130$, was sposed to be 150...but I accidently ripped off the couple by not giving them a 20 (was a complete accident)
I too have that same filter that I bought to replace one of the stock filters...and its good....but not 450$ good.
I personally would try 250$ OBO, if your lucky and adamant about the price you could POSSIBLY get 300...but I personally wouldn't hold out for it.
All that said...it really depends on your area. For one reason or another aquariums may be more expensive there then here. Instead of asking the forum. I would just do a CL search on fish tanks or aquariums (try both words) and see what the results yield for your area.
I know in my area you wont get 450.Last edited by dlaube; 01-18-2010 at 05:29 PM.

$250 would be more like it.

Depending on the lights I dont think you will even be able to get 250 for it, but if the setup is clean and pristine you will have a better shot. 250 is not a bad place to start it, though.

Wow i hate to bust your bubble but maybe your best bet is to search craigslist and see what tanks that size and a little bigger and smaller go for.
Around here im trying to get this 55 gallon with everything plus a canopy for $100 now that is a really good deal. I couldnt get $450 for my 75 gallon full setup with 2 filters. I would love to get $250 when i sell it.

After looking at the listing I would still try 250 right off the bat.
Just make sure you list absolutely everything. When its in writing, quantity > quality. In person quantity = quality.

all i can add is i'd never pay 450 for a 55 gallon tank even with a stand canopy and canister filters

I've made one craiglist tank purchase.
I got a 75g tank with a nice, matching wooden stand. For accessories I received three heaters that could together heat the tank and three HOB filters that I'm really hoping the guy wasn't filtering this thing with. I also received more gravel than I'd ever need, plus tons of decorations.
What did he charge me? $100. Even after buying lighting and a proper rena xp3, I didn't spend $450.

You would be lucky to get more than $150 for the bundle. A person could probably get everything you have listed brand new and not break $400.
