Here's the first pics of the tiny new red lizard whiptail fry. I was really beginning to wonder if the eggs would EVER hatch, even though they weren't fungused. Apparently dear old daddy red stayed with them, doing something that looked like pushups to keep water moving through the pvc tube, while they absorbed their yolk sacs. I looked into the tube just last night and noticed he was alone in there. At first I couldn't see any fry, but I gradually realized the wee buggers were all over the tank. Most were/are on the glass and plants, a couple on the sand and sponge filter. Trying to get pics of something that small with an autofocus point-sand-shoot camera isn't easy. Most of the attempted closeup shots focused on something further back than the front glass, but I managed to get a couple.

I'm hoping this doesn't get ugly before the new one arrives:

Look closely in the middle of the pic:

Two on the back glass, just about the actual size:

Three (one out of focus) hanging among the Najas (left side.) Love the tiny camo pattern:

Thanks for the kind words. Breeding them is the easy part; raising the fry is another matter. From what I've gathered if they make it through the first month they're well enough on their way. I've been clouding the water with microworms in an attempt to get enough live food on the sand for them to eat whenever they want, but they all seem to be on the glass and plants. I haven't seen any on the driftwood yet either. At this point I'm wondering if they're like BN fry; I've seen those stay in the cave with the father for several days (or more) after the yolk sac is gone. Obviously, there can't be any food in there for them, but they don't seem to get any thinner before they do venture out on their own.

They are so tiny! Congrats on them. In one pic you can see a MTS and get a good feel for how small they really are.

Here's another size comparison pic, the 2 tiny fry are at the same distance from the camera as the "giant" thermometer:

Little better look at their overall appearance:

Their tails do seem to be longer 5-6 days after the first pics:

Hard to see among the Najas, it's where most of them hang out:
