    Default Sponge pre-filter with HOBs?

Just wondering if anyone uses sponge pre-filters on the intake tubes of HOBs. I use these sponges on my canisters with outstanding results and just wonder if the HOBs have enough power to pull through them (I would think so, I am thinking of Aquaclear 30s and 50s). Thanks!

    Sponges I use:

    8 tanks running now:
    1x 220 gallon, 2x55 gallon, 1x40 gallon long, 1x29 gallon, 1x20 gallon long, 1x5.5 gallon, 1x2 gallon
Gouramis, barbs, rasboras, plecos, corys, tetras, fancy guppies, swordtails, ottos, rainbow shark, upside-down catfish, snails, and Max and Sparkles the bettas.

I actually almost bought some last night for my Classic 2217 and my 110 Aquaclear. I know if you have a sand substrate you should have those on your intakes because they will catch any sand particles that might get into your filter.

It should be fine, as long as the foam isn't overly big. I'm planning on doing the same thing on my AC mini as I am getting some cherry shrimp

What kind of sponge are you thinking of using on the mini?
