Would a fiddler/red clawed crab work in a 46gallon tank with harlyquin rasboras, zebra danios, platies, guppies, a clown pleco, and a female betta?
Have you had your daily dosage of Pele?

Fiddler crabs are not able to live in a tank like that,They are not fully aquatic, they need land.
They also like brackish water.Red claw crabs are very much the same way but do spend more time in the water.http://www.aquaticcommunity.com/inv/aquariumcrabs.php

Like Northenguy said. They need land and are brackish. So no, they wouldn't work out. Shrimp, like ghost or cherry are an option. Your female betta may eat some of the shrimp, but if you get alot or go with cheaper shrimp like the ghost you can just add more.
