Compact fluorescents VS t-5 tubes
I'm looking at lighting again for the 55g since my temporary 80w t-12 shop light bit the dust. Been searching all around, but I've found some of the best deals on ebay. Trying to decide what option will be the best for the money. Either a 130w compact fluorescent fixture http://cgi.ebay.com/AQUARIUM-LIGHT-4...item3ca6e63ea9
or a 108w t-5 fixture http://cgi.ebay.com/48-Nova-ExtremeT...item5d26d23732

With the compact fluorescents, you lose more light due to restrike and also it is more expensive to replace the bulbs. I have both and I prefer the T-5s.

Power Compacts can be purchased at a great low price in the right place, but your bulbs do not last nearly as long as they should be replaced every 6-9 months. T5 bulbs can be used until they burn out. IMO, you can't beat the T5s

Thanks guys. I know the t-5's are what everyone raves about, but I had never heard any feedback on the power fluorescents. I think the t-5 fixture is what I'm leaning towards. :-)
