Yay fish time again!
Wanna hear a funny story?
My 29 gallon tank at home has been cycled for a month... and I didn't know!
LOL fail.
Aaaanywho.
It's time to add fish after I do my water change and some cleaning.
My rams I won't be getting until March or so. My otos will probably come a little before that (the sooner the better, my algae is out of control! but I know I have to wait.) The cories will come around Christmas!
Soooo =D It's time to get my big school of fish fish. It was originally gonna be a biig school of neons.
I've learned the hard way that neons...aren't a great idea.
SO. Help me decide?
The stocking plan is:
2 GBR
6 Otos
6 Pygmy Cories
plus my school.
I want bright fish to stand out against the otos and cories (and the black substrate), and I want very small fish...and I want a nice size school of them.
I was thinking maybe guppies, glo-fish or some kind of tetra. Something hardy, obviously...since it will be the first fish added to my tank. What do you think? And how many should I add immediately? I have 2 AC50s running on it!Last edited by Lolita; 11-05-2009 at 04:18 PM.

any of those would work, the guppies will make some babies so you will end up with lots of guppies before you know it, and they dont seem to school as much as other livebearers IMO. Mostly just the boys chasing the girls.

Congrats on the cycle!
Maybe Bloodfin tetras? they are a whitish silver with bright red fins,
or cardinal tetras? the rams sound great.
Glass cats, they are a bit bigger but they are oh so cool.
the choices are endless!!

Also I heard oscars make great schooling fish for smaller tanks. Also they help eat the algea. And do their own water changes. If you can find a female oscar she even vaccums the gravel for you.
Sorry, back at work and bored out of my mind.Who is "General Failure" and why is he reading my hard drive?

I have heard from my LFS that cardinals are a bit tougher than neons, but no experience firsthand with them.

Look into Von Rio Flame tetras. Quite hardy and the colors you're looking for.
Cards can be very difficult to acclimate, more so than neons. That is why I chose rummynose over cardinals this time around. But once you're past acclimation I've had no trouble with them (past the 2 week period).

Cardinals not specificly hardy IME, but as you have a pretty healthy tank as long as the upkeep is routine(and i know you will have no prob with that) it should be ok to give em a try! again the bloodfins are cool. I have some in my 29 with some longfin danios, they join the tag games with each other. literaly ill be watching and it will be 1 fish chasing the rest and when he catches one the roles reverse. just like schoolyard tag!!
