I just bought four yellow lab cichlids they are all about 2-3 inches in length. I realize I am going to have to move the tetra to another tank soon, but i think they are big enough to deal with the cichlids for the moment. I am wondering if I will need to add more cichlids to keep aggression levels down.

Probably shouldn't have bought them without a little more research, but i guess I've been itching to stock this tank a little too much.

I would really take the yellow labs back as they are likely to destroy your planted tank. Not to mention rift lake cichlids need a very different setup than the one you have.

I have lots of rock available around me(I live on Lake Superior) and I'm working on making some pvc fake rock-scapes. So I've decided to go with cichlids. If they start ripping my plants to shreds I have another tank to move them. I'm guessing the digging behavior doesn't manifest until they are adults as I haven't seen any of that behavior as of yet.

I'm thinking I will go with 3 different species with 14 fish total.
    6 yellow lab
    4 clown lab
    4 ?????????

I'm thinking a red fish that has a less aggressive temperament to go along with the labs

Well after thinking about it some more I'm taking them back to the lfs. From my research some kribs would be a better choice. What are other dwarf cichlids that would be compatible with the planted tank?
