  1. Default Help me ID a fish please

Almost a year ago I bought a five of these guys on a whim from a local pet store. I figured they were just tetras, so how could they not fit into the community? I was also new to the hobby and hadn't learned to research all purchases yet. They were labeled Red Belly X-Ray Tetras at the LFS. They have lived happily in my tank ever since, but whenever I search for that name I don't get very good results.

In fact, when I google image the name I only get one picture of them that I can find. It is the very first one that comes up. The picture seems dead though and all that is left is the thumbnail. Here is my google search link if it works. Again, it is the first picture.

I'm looking for their scientific name if anyone can help with that.

Do they actually have red bellies? If not, they're probably just regular x-ray tetras.

  4. Default

That is the problem. No I cannot find a better picture. In fact, that is the ONLY picture I can find. I can't even find a worse one.

Could you show me a picture of regular x-ray tetras?

  5. Default

Is that what you mean? Those are definitely not the fish I have. Google image search for red belly x-ray tetras and the very first image is what I have. I can't link it though for some reason and it isn't a great picture.

These are identical in body shape. Does anyone know if there are albino morphs of this fish? I wouldn't be surprised if that is what I have.

Xray Tetras are also know as Pristella Tetras (Pristella maxillaris)

    Here some from google images.

This awful little picture that won't link normally is the only I can find of them.

  9. Default

It's extremely hard to tell what that is. How big is the fish right now?

  10. Default

    Small, maybe 1.25".
