My worse fear has come true
I just went to feed my blood parrots and my female has died. I am so sick over this and have worried about losing one of these fish because they are my favorites. The male is also very stressed looking.
They are in a barebottom 55 gallon with two featherfins. I did a 50% water change last night (yes, I added dechlorinator) and filled their tank with hygro. It's just floating because this is a bare bottom tank.
Ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates 0.
I added ferts to the tank last night but they were in another planted tank previously so I don't think it was the ferts. My next guess was me adding a new Steath Heater yesterday. I had it set a bit too high and the water was 82. Perhaps it was too warm for these fish.
Anyway, I just did another water change to cool the water down to 78 but I am now concerned over this male. I don't know what to do!Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

I now am questioning everything I did last night and especially adding the dechlorinator. I mean, I can't remember adding it but I always add it before I even start to fill the tank because I forgot it one time long ago and lost fish over it. Since then, I add it before I even turn the water on. But, this is like asking yourself "did I really wipe the last time I went to the bathroom." Well, sure I did. But do I remember that act specifically? NO! You do so much from pure habit that you can't remember the act itself.
But really, had I forgotten to add the dechlorinator I would have killed the bacteria and would have ammonia readings this morning.
I noticed last night that each parrot was sleeping at opposite ends of the tank and they never do that. They are always all lovey-dovey and right together. I should have noticed something wasn't right then.
I just don't know what to do now about this male. Leave him alone in the tank with the lights off or move him to another tank with the angels for a day or two. What would you do?Cycling With Fish?•• The Fishless Cycle••

I'd be tempted to leave him...rather than add extra stress...

You must have added the dechlorinator or your perameters would be off somewhere!
So sorry to hear about your fish!

Thanks guys. I'm so worried about saving the male that I can hardly think about the one that's gone. He could be upset because she's gone, too. Who knows about fish.
