Does anyone have experience using GE silicone 1 in an aquarium?
I'd like to know whether its safe or whether it kills fish. any suggestions for other silicone brands are welcome too.

In the past GE silicone 1 was the go to for resealing tanks, but lately I have heard it shouldn't be used. Since I am not sure which is true I usually err on the side of caution. I have used DAP aquarium silicone from Home Depot with good results and there is this one from That Fish Place http://www.thatpetplace.com/aquarium...FeJF7AodpgkA6w But I have never used it so I can't comment on its quality.

Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes that reason is you are stupid and make bad decisions.

I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.

If I remember correctly GE No.1 is 100% silicone with no anti-mold, mildew additives. That will work. We used to use it to repair maple sap buckets.

I Have used GE 1 silicone in both my marine tanks and it is safe. You have to find the old containers of it as GE changed it one or two years ago and now it seams no one is sure of how safe the new version is. The older formula and packaing look like the below. You can still find the old formula in a lot of stores like Walmart and Home Depot.

The pic is in the below thread

If you take your time to do the research FIRST, you can successfully set-up and keep ANY type of aquarium with ease.

my silicone doesn't say it's for doors and windows, but it states that it is for kitchen, bath and plumbing.
is anyone aware of the safety of that?
again, thanks a lot for the help.

The silicone that states it is meant for kitchen/bath applications will commonly (not always) have the anti-bacterial additives which makes it not safe for aquarium use. I would personally not use it.

Perhaps it is best to play it safe an get one that states aquarium safe (as Mommy has already suggested)

If I remember the were you live correctly, there are a few reef shops in Calgary and Edmonton that stock aquarium safe silicone and you can always order on-line form J&L aquatics

Amazon seems to carry a selection of aquarium silicone. I think I've been spoiled by shopping on line. :)

Then again, sometimes it's hard to find anything unusual in this town.
