Thread: "help"

  1. Default "help"

I came home from work today and noticed my anemone that someone gave me is all closed up and so was my star polyp and encrusting gorgonian, my hammer and frogspawn were both open but not as big as usual, my zoa is open fuller then it has ever been though, my ph is 8.3, ammonia 0, nitrites 0 and nitrates about 20. Any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I did a 30 gallon water change last nite which was about 40% to try to get nitrates down and remove algae. Nitrates dropped slightly, when I measured them before the water change and then again about 2 hours or so after the change it was at 20 both times, and same tonight.

I forgot that my sg is 1.024 using a refractometer.

What are your calcium levels, temperature, kH. Did your salinity change from before or after the WC? Zoas are very hardy corals and really dont seem to mind change, so Im not shocked out of all its doing great lol. It could just be a response to the large WC if nothing has changed, give them a day or two to adjust and they should be right as rain again.

My sg was 1.026 and temp is always about 80, maybe during the day it climbs to 81. Not sure about calcium or kh I will have to test them as I didnt think about that, thanks for your help.

ive noticed when my salinity was around 1.026 my stuff, about the same as you got, closed up when i dropped it every thing was fine every one opened back up i didnt think that little bit would do it but i guess it does

I would probably have to put money on it being calcium, but I'm no expert.

The salinity change of .002 was a bit much for a WC, but I would imagine after a day they would have re-opened the next day. How are they doing now? Any change....and Im with PPeater, calcium is my leading suspect.

The anemone opened all the way back up today, my star polyp opened a lil bit and my encrusting gorgonian didnt open at all, my frogspawn was a little more open and so was the hammer. My sun coral is opened up great the whole time and really opened up last nite.
