Thread: pH and cycling

  1. Default pH and cycling

I read this about pH and cycling

The optimum pH range for Nitrosomonas is between 7.8-8.0.

The optimum pH range for Nitrobacter is between 7.3-7.5

My water tests at 8.2 with the ammonia in the water. will this inhibit growth?

    That info come from Kent?

I might suggest Anthony Rose's Microbial Physiology.
Nitrosomonas in general, and Europea specifically, tolerate a wide range of pH values.

The direct answer to your question- not in any appreciable amount and certainly not enough to warrant messing with your pH.

reading some journal abstracts such as this :

    http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/art...i?artid=106468

tend to make me believe that my pH is good for the bacteria, and that its pH being too LOW that would cause the water to be toxic to the bacteria.

good to know, that's what I figured :) I assume my last large WC will bring the pH back to normal(my tap water is of pH 7.6)
