Rue, I think I'm going to approach it this way...Smaller portion sizes, as we already eat healthy. No snacking, regardless of how hungry I may think I am. Absolutely nothing to eat after supper...I'm also eliminating my occassional glass of red wine....If that doesn't work, I'll have to reassess.

I hope that approach works for you. That's what I tried initially...er, and then gained weight...

It wasn't until the Doctor said, "1200 calories! Nothing else will work!" that I re-examined what I was doing. Also, no bread - 1-2 slices a day MAX (I used to eat at least 4 slices if I had breakfast toast)...and up the protein.

1200 calories is under the recent guidelines of 1500 calories a day...and I noticed that even Slimfast has changed their 'sample daily diet' to total from 1300 to 1500 to conform to those new guidelines.

But the doctor said that the metabolism of middle-aged women is so much slower that weight loss just won't happen without a drastic caloric decrease.

I have to say...while I've become a tad food-obcessed...in truth I'm not overly hungry anymore - so it can't be too restrictive.

I do drink Slimfast for breakfast...because otherwise I'd have nothing...and I have a piece of fruit along with it.

The rest of the day I eat whatever I want (minus the bread) and count calories. I'm not always bang-on the 1200 but I'm sticking as close as I can without freaking out about it...

Plus I'm trying to get regular exercise in:

Mon: Dance class - 1 hour
    Fri: Yoga - 1 hour
Rest of week: Walk dogs/ treadmill at least 2X (need to up that to 3X)...I walk at least 3 km each time (a brisk 30 min.)

Well in the last month I have changed when I eat my big meal during the week to the noontime and only have a sandwich at work at night. I have lost 16lbs. I still have about 44 to go but I haven't changed much of anything else. I am trying to stay on my feet more at work (I work in a data center so that is easy enough). I need to start some kind of exercise regimen that won't make my plantar fascia (sp?) any worse. We shall see!!

I always skip breakfast....and have lunch around 11am. I just can't eat early in the morning. I never have more than two slices of bread per day, most days only one. I do pick while I'm making supper, and I really could decrease sweets. I eat less now, than ever before, and I'm prone to gaining which I've not generally experienced before. People tell me I look better than I ever have, but I don't feel it. I do think that the aging process is a major factor for me, and there's only so much you can do....

1200 calories....I may have to keep a food journal...

Best check with your Doctor first...everyone is different. I think breakfast is a biggie ...I used to be ravenous by lunch...now I'm hungry but not ravenous. Plus I do agree that you must have to burn off calories consumed early in the day moreso than those consumed late in the day...

Left to my own devices I'd eat twice a day...brunch and dinner...but I can't usually accomodate that with everyone else's day...so I have to have the 3 meals (and 2 small snacks) into my day...

Okay! I'm off to shake my booty. Dance class is NOT cancelled for Thanksgiving...she said we'll need the exercise more than ever today...

I'm looking forward to loosing 16 lbs...I'm still at 10...which still doesn't feel momentous to me...

What time do you get up?

By skipping breakfast, you put your body into ''starving'' mode, the meal you eat next, most of the fat/calories will then be stored as fat, instead of being used as energy and burned off naturally. Eating smaller meals, more often will prevent this and alone can probably drop a couple pounds.

Skipping breakfast also makes you less energetic. It may be ''hard'' the first couple times you eat and you feel like your forcing yourself but then if you skip again, your body will be starving and you'll realize that you can't miss it.

When I skip breakfast, im less hungry throughout the day because my body goes into starving. Just try it, you'll see a difference

I just got back from my meeting. I lost 2.4 pounds. I am so pumped. If I keep this up I will be just overweight in no time. :)
