The best source is the book I plugged earlier.Building a pond is a big project.Study long and hard ,from good books.The net is too scattered.

Also how cold is winter, whats the frost line? will you keep them indoors when the pond freezes? the frost line here is around 36 inches.

I have kept ponds with the fish in them year round in pa in winters that were below freezing for a month or more.If a hole can be kept in the ice,even a small hole the fish do fine.All that is needed is an air exchange hole.The fish shut down almost completly during the winter requiring no food and only the smallest amounts of 02.My first ponds were only 18" deep and they never froze more then 6" or so with a circlutaion pump directly at the surface keeping the water moving.
