Kept Elephant nose and Black Ghost Knife?
Ive seen Utube videos of people having them together in a tank and ive seen your not supposed to keep them together but like anything else certain things can work for other sometimes so i just wanted to know 1st hand from someone else if they have had them together. Now i have read all about the electric they give off but its 2 different kinds so that really isnt an effect like some people make it. Kinda like a cell phone and a house phone and a remote air plane and a cop radio and a walkie talkie is all on different signals.

I found this article to be quite interesting....
The below extract is taken from...http://www.mcssupport.com/fish/bgk.htm
The BGK is a “slightly electric” fish. Giving off, at most, 3 milivolts of charge. The electrical sensory system is required for navigation and hunting since the fish is nearly blind. When in seach of food the BGK will move forward in a head down posture, or swim backward in a reverse motion in a head up posture. This enables the active sensory area located dorsally to cover as much area as possible. With over 1400 sensors distributed across the body the BGK is able to discern the slightest changes in the electrical field surrounding him. As opposed to the short bursts emitted by an Elephant Nose the BGK emits electrical waves. Providing a more constant awareness of its surroundings.
The BGK should be kept as a single specimen, without any other “electric” fish in the tank.
Of course this is only one article...Last edited by Little Embers; 09-13-2009 at 04:52 AM.

I would wonder if your kept electronics or wireless devices near your aquarium, if it would effect the fish's ability to navigate properly.

I personally think it might....you see whales, dolphins etc. becoming more and more confused these days and loosing direction, which may be due to all the sonar equipment that ships have. Just speculating here!

My question really is who has kept this. Ive seen people having it on utube and had no problems or in one of my LFS a guy had more then one BGK in his tank. And at the fish store we see these kinda fish in the same tanks together YES its not when they are older but electric is electric regardless of there age. So i assume it can be done with a problem with others are doing it and nothing is wrong.

So firstly, you don't know they don't have problems. You see a 2-3 min video; not their entire lifespan. So they may well have problems, and i would imagine they do.
Also, fish stores put fish together in tanks that should never ever ever be in the same tank. I saw cichlids and feeder goldfish the other day. They do this to fill the space in the tanks and dont pay attention to whether or not it works.
I would be skeptical that it works. Don't assume because you saw it youtube/utube that its fine - or that a LFS does it. As a friend on here says, a LFS would sell you cancer if they thought you'd buy it30g - Planted - need to do some serious rethinking
