Well, the story ended well for all the fish. The Con got re-homed and the Tiger Barbs all survived their ordeal.

I actually have 7 tiger barbs in a 20g living peacefully with:
1 small CAE
7 diamond tetra (serpae tetra)
6 neon tetra (they were in the tank before the barbs)
(the 20g is a little over crowded so the serpae may leave soon)
