Angels in a 45g tall
I got this tank a while back and thought it would be ideal for angelfish. Had a tragic ordeal with some yellow sunshines i had in the tank for the last year and needless to say it is empty now. How many angels could i put in this tank? A pair? 3? also what tank mates would be nice if any? Also the tank has a big anubias and some scattered java fern throughout if that matters. Thanks.

Thats perfect, I would have a nice pair and planted tank. I would also have some congos or emperor tetras in there.
Plants are great. Are you looking to breed?

if they do end up breeding it would be pretty cool but im not necessarily expecting them to. Any recommendations on choosing a pair or angelfish in general?

I have a 45 tall with one angel in it. I also have a blue gourami. You could buy an already mated pair and save the trouble of trying to pair them up. It may run you a little more money wise but I have heard that getting them to mate is hit and miss. I have some tetra and molly and glofish in with the angel as well. I have hornwort and cabomba already in the tank and am planning on adding some nana soon. Hope some of this helps.

That's good for angelfish.
When you pick the fish try to avoid getting any fish that have been solo for too long. Angelfish in solo tanks get really territorial and will often kill other fish in the tank.
I would pick out a pair of angelfish that you like, an albino bristlenose pleco and either a small school of corries or a larger catfish. Plants and/or driftwood will also help keep down stress.
Angelfish aren't really hard to keep, the trick is making sure you get healthy stock. In general angelfish from LFSs are going to be MUCH more healthy than those from retail pet stores. Even then it's still hit or miss though. If you can find a local angelfish breeder that can be helpful. There are also a lot of great websites where you can get pairs online. If you're interested drop me a note. I know most of the major breeders online and can send you in the right direction.

if breeding isnt your goal then the happiest results with angelfish comes when they are kept singular.

Thanks for all the great input. I'm gonna head to my LFS this weekend hopefully and see what they got in stock. Thanks again.
