Rear Projection TV
We have a five year old LG Rear Projection TV. We're having problems with a red wave across the bottom screen, and red and green overtones to images. The guide has a double image...red over normal. The guide has also locked, occassionally. Any one have any ideas? I'm fairly certain the bulb has the full hours used, but I'm not sure that a bulb replacement will solve this problem. We're considering replacing the TV with a Plasma or LCD. Anyone have any experience or suggestions as to what the problem may be?

I would have the bulbs checked out!
The screen on the inside is probably in need iof a cleaning too! They do get real dirty and effects the picture!
I do think you would be happier with the newer TVs.
My beef with them is wide screen. Why do most people look short and stocky. When you set it to normal only half the screen is used.Ray

Thanks Ray! I'm sure we would be happier with the newer TVs but 5 years doesn't seem like we've got our money's worth, considering what we paid for the darn thing. It is a wide screen...42inches, I think...and we've actually been happy with it until now. How do you clean the screen on the inside?

Yeah I agree, I would check out the unit. A good cleaning can do wonders for those things. Even just wiping down the screen, changing the bulbs and using a can of air to blow out the dust can REALLY help. They can get really hot, which may cause problems. Removing the dust will help keep it cooled.

Thanks!!!I'm going to do some cleaning, but I have to wait for Ken to get home. I can take things apart, but have difficulty putting everything back together!

Take pics as you remove stuff.
It makes it much easier to remember!

Good idea!!! And if we really screw it up, we'll get a Plasma. Now I'll just have to convince Ken to take it apart...he's not exactly "handy"
either...

Check the menu system for the TV. There may be an option that'll allow you to align the Red Green and Blue so that they're proper again.

I can't see anything in the menu that would relate, but I'm really bad at this sort of thing. My daughter set everything up for us, and I don't touch anything...
