Thread: bottom feeder ?

  1. Default bottom feeder ?

Hi i have had my 35 litre up and running for about 4 months now and so far have kitted it out with plants and i have got 6 platys in it but i want a bottom feeder but i dont want corydoras as i find them boring what options do i have so it would have enough room the tank is roughly 20 inch wide and 15 inch length

    if you like otto's
i think you can add 4 or 5,
    or i could be wrong.
your best option is some cories.
and what's the filter in the tank?
    have you cycled the tank?

filter is overhead with sponge carbon and noodles and the tank is cycled and well established so you reckon otos are contenders ill look into them

I don't think there are that many options available as 35 litres is only a 10 gallon tank, I don't think you have much room to add any more fish except perhaps a few Oto's, but if you think Cory's are boring, I don't think you would like Oto's...you will probably very rarely see them.

If you have male/female platies you will most definitely get a lot of fry anyway which will increase your stocking.

i have 2 pregnant platys at the mo but im not sure when they are going to give birth they look very bulgy and look as if they could pop any minute but i wanted something for the bottom of the tank i had a few bronze cories in my downstairs tank and they seemed to do nothing apart from constantly look for food in the gravel lol what about khuli loaches ? my brother said they are quite cool as he has had them in the past

I would say get some corys .They are very active when kept in the right numbers. If you only had a few they would be boring. They would be sitting around because they are meant to be kept with 6 or more.
For a ten gal. I would consider dwarf corys. There is not many that can be kept properly in 10!

Your platys will soon be dropping fry every 40days roughly.
Once they start its an on going thing!lolI donate 100 guppies every two months to my lfs.lol

    definately no kuhli loaches!
they will outgrow your tank as they need at least a minimum of 20g
so your limited to either the otto's or cories for a cleaning crew
or you could get some shrimp.

I honestly do not think you have the room...that is what bottom feeders do, the will constantly look for food in the gravel or they are hiding during the day. Platies usually swim at all levels of the tank anyway, if you are just looking for something to be on the bottom.

I agree, you have no room, especially with the pregnant platties. You will soon be overrun with fry, and water quality will rapidly decline do to the increased bioload.
