  1. Default A vacation suprise!

I left for a weeklong vacation with a few pregnant mollies (balloon and gold dust). All seemed normal when I got home... the tank was pretty nasty so I started to change it right away. When I plugged my filter back in, it didn't start! So, naturally, I took it apart. I dumped the water out in my dirty water bucket... and something comes with it. It starts moving! TWO BABY FISH! I have no clue who the mama is, or how they managed to survive in there. The tricky part is I'm moving about 2 hours away tomorrow. All of my fish are going in a big rubbermaid tub with their own water. The fry kind of throw a wrench in my plans. For now, I've put my baby fish in a heated bucket with all of my plants. So basically, any advice or help would be welcome. I'm a little overwhelmed right now, and being a first time fish grandma is only adding to the stress! Thanks!!

Congratulations and good luck with the move. I think the best place for them is the bucket with the plants.

how can you tell they are about to have babies? I have one and she lays behind a rock under the heater till i feed then she comes out and shortly after she returns to that same spot I was thinking maybe she is

They'll usually look like they're about to pop right before having the babies. Some become a bit less active. I've always just let mine have them in the tank so I am not sure of any more particular behaviors.
