Technically its not classified as a fungus anymore but an algae, but that is the new tank fungus that often grows on wood and plants, and on excess food etc its all the same fungus, Saprolegnia. It wont harm your fish and if the source of growth isnt something you can remove, if you just let it go it will go away eventually. If its on a plant though, its probably an indication the plant isnt doing well.
It is also the same fungus that grows on a fish with a wound and stuff, but it doesnt spread from your wood to your fish like that, at least not that I know of.

The pleco will eat it, but I doubt its giving him much nutrition? So no big deal removed or not

I get this fungus in new tanks to varying degrees sometimes none at all, and sometimes even the glass gets a bunch in the first few weeks
The pleco does need wood in his diet though
