How much ammonia should I be putting in my cycling tank?
I have a standard 55 cycling right now...
I FINALLY found the ammonia I needed today but now I can't find out how much to put in the tank.
I keep getting mixed answers from a few capfuls to a drop.
Does anyone know how much I should put in right now? And how often I should add it and change the water?
Thanks a ton. =)55 GALLON
* 9 neon tetras
* 3 red eye tetras
5 GALLON HEX.

You need to add enough to go to 4ppm. It will be a small amount, not capfuls. Put in a few drops wait then test. Once you get to around 4 ppm stop.
Add ammonia as needed to keep the level at 4 ppm. Once you see a nitrite reading change the amount to 2 ppm of ammonia and maintain that until the cycle finishes.
No need to change water until the cycle finishes.

if you have eyedropper about 30 drops should do it. then test about 6 hours later or next day add if needed to raise ammonia to 4ppm. then you wait for bacteria to develop. do not change water during this time.

A bit more one day than another is not of real concern and you have plenty of room to mess up a bit. I don't do the dropfuls simply because it's too tedious and I am probably one of the capful people. My cycling thread may help you.
