Neon Tetras with white pimples???
Hi all
We have 9 Neon Tetras - they've been with us for 6 months without issue until now. There are a number of them who now have a spot on their lip/mouth - it looks like a small white pimple. I've also noticed the fins of a couple of them appear damaged. Attached are a couple of pics - please help!!
Any suggestions on what it may be and how to sort it out would be appreciated.

I notice this is your first post.
Welcome!
I would like to know more about your aquarium.
How big is it? What is your stocking for it?
Do you have a test kit? Did you cycle?
I also notice a goldfish in there, they are coldwater fish wheras tetras are warm water.
The fins seem to have fin rot.
The mouths may have fungus.SIX OR MORE MAN TO THE RESCUE!

Hi guys. It seems I might be having the same problem except one of my neon's has the pimple right next to its fin and another is missing an eyeball. The pimple is getting bigger.
The aquairums 20 gallons.
It's tank mates consist of cherry barbs, harlequin, 1 danio, 2 cory catfish, a plecostomus and 2 ghost shrimp.

Hey Kaz and Northernguy
Thank you for responding and asking for more info.
Tank details:
Size = 25L
Stock = 9 x Neon Tetras, 3 x clown loaches, 2 x catfish and 1 x guppy from a previous tank (seemingly indestructable and perfectly content being the odd fin out).
Cycling approx 1/4 every 6 wks. Temp @ 26-28C. pH balance steady at 7 to 7.1 and has been for a few months. The tank has been established for approx 6 months.
What advice do you have for treating fin rot and fungus???
Noisy Ninja - I hope you're able to resolve your Tetra issues too.
Cheers!

What kind of catfish do you have?
Do you have a liquid test kit yet? We need your Nitrite, ammonia, and nitrate perameters.
A 25L tank is under ten gallons.Your fish are getting sick due to being stressed from too small a tank and too many fish.
When was your last water change? How long has your tank been cycled? How did you cycle?Last edited by Northernguy; 07-08-2009 at 02:49 PM.

"Pimples" around mouth could (likely) be Cotton Mouth / Cotton Wool Disease. Mainly from poor water quality.
Fin damage could be finrot (also poor water quality / lack of cycling) or physical damage.
Once you address the water issue (buy a test kit) you'll be able to determine if an aggressor is causing fin damage, but by the looks of things you may need to brush up on cycling, or tank maintenance. IMHO.Last edited by Wetpets; 07-08-2009 at 03:43 PM.

Katie,
I looked at your pics again. Cottonmouth disease this is!
See your first pic, bottom right neon. You will need to address that with a proprietry cure, ask your LFS for assistance / advice. I've gone and left my disease manual at work, but a rid-aura or general aid should work - there are better medications though - if you can wait til tomorrow I can give you the chemical names.
