Default 3 breeds of pygmy cories, advice needed

So I've been looking at my tank and i really miss having a cory species. I noticed that all three species of micro cories (hastatus, hasbrosus, pygmatus) are more mid dwellers than they are bottom dwellers. The tank they would most likely go in would be the 10g i have set up.
Tank is heavily planted with 2 20g aquaclears
    Stocking includes:
    4 peacock gudgeons (babies still)
    1 hillstream loach
    apox. 20 cherry shimp
    4 amano shrimp
8 blue eyed rice fish (would be moved if got the cories)

The tank will have, when done, a carpet of HC on the bottom. Should I even bother thinking about getting them if I'm not really going to have a substrate for them? I'm just getting a basic idea to see if i should even ask the LFS to order any for me. If you have any input or experience with the species please tell me.

15g mod. planted: nano fish community tank

Carpet of HC? What is HC?
The Metaphysics of Quality would show how things become enormously more coherent--fabulously more coherent--when you start with an assumption that Quality is the primary empirical reality of the world....

This is HC, also known as Hemianthus callitrichoides or dwarf baby tears.

I've never had any of these, but my impression from research is that only hastatus is primarily midwater.

I've read that hastatus and pygmaetus are more mid, though hastatus is a little more than pygmates. Hasbrosus is the most like normal cories and also a little harder to raise. I was looking more hastatus and pygmaetus. I've done a good amount of research on them, as I they would have to special order them and I want it to be a good buy.

In my experience, habrosus cories are rather fragile, and require more pristine water conditions than the other two. They also stay at the bottom, and generally behave like miniature paleatus cories.

Hasbrosus ime are very hardy.I bought 10 of them 4 years ago ,I lost 4 in the first 3 weeks do to the tank not being totally cycled,in that way they were not a good choice. They are however doing great now in a tank that most would consider dirty ,,,,anyway. They are a very active little cory and they will do fine with a carpet of hc,actually I think that would be ideal for them, they would love to root around in that as mine are constantly engaged in rooting in my exposed roots in my plants.Get as big a group as you can,10 of them is a very small bioload and they love the company.
