Default megastealer's 29g goldfish aquarium journal - home of Gaius and Caprica

Since neither of my tanks were 100% finished in their cycling, I made the decision that my goldfish would be better off finishing the cycle in the 29 gallon rather than in the 10 gallon.

Today is day 1 - I was up till about 1AM last night getting everything set up and looking nice... I had this area of our room trashed all day and I was getting fussed at lol.

Also, AABatteries referred me to this awesome lighting system was only $65 from fishneedit.com. I HIGHLY recommend it, and there is also a coupon code floating around for free shipping from them. You need to register at another aquarium forum to get it, but it is well worth it.

So anyway, here are some pictures, hope you enjoy. Caprica is still sickly looking, but may be recovering. Either way, at least she gets to spend the rest of her life in the promised land!

Pictures of just the fish in their new home:
(Gaius is the white and gold one, Caprica is the gold one, and Caprica is about 4 months older than Gaius)

Also, here are some pictures of the vents on the t5 lighting system... they are shaped like little fish lol!

Looking good. Is this tank already cycled or did you move them into the 29g because it has more volume?
55g: Future home of a green terror and 2 convicts
29g: Convicts, tiger barbs, corys, snails
    29g: 3 fancy goldfish
    5g: Betta

Mostly because of the volume. I have been seeing nitrates for the past 2 weeks thanks to the help of some danios and feeder goldfish, so it is getting there. The danios and feeders will probably be going in my 10 gallon, unless I decide to put my 4 danios in with the goldfish and leave the feeders by themselves.

Caprica passed away last night. She was looking sad for a couple days, and I figured her time had come. At least she got to enjoy the 29 gallon for a few weeks. Her fins had all grown back, but I guess her body had just been through too much to keep going.

    R.I.P. Caprica, you crazy fish

I uploaded a short video of Gaius II, who I have a hard time believing is only 4 months old! He's gotten pretty huge

(sorry about the quality, its my cell phone camera... I'll take a nicer quality movie when I get caprica II in baton rouge)

I also now have 2 aquaclear 50s on the tank.

Alright, I have moved the tank all the way to Baton Rouge and have had it running for a little over a week now!

Ammonia and Nitrites have stayed at 0, so my bacteria did live in the filter media, which I left in a bucket full of tank water, filter media, and my plants on the ride over.

I bought another goldfish from Petsmart, but I had no idea once they reach the size of Gaius they cost $30! Anyways, he was such a close match to Gaius that I couldn't pass him up, so I bought him and brought him back

I was originally going to buy more plants, but after dropping $30 on Caprica, I am going to hold off on spending for now in case something important with the tank comes up.

I listed Tyrol on Craigslist but no one was willing to send pictures of their pond or tank they claimed they had, so I will have to assume they were lying and have smaller tanks than I do. For now at least, he seems happy and healthy here.

(also the video seems to be better quality in normal quality, not HQ)

    Enjoy!

P.S. Comments on my aquarium journal are more than welcome!

Caprica has passed away this morning, a few days after moving the tank home from college.

I was on vacation and my sister was watching the fish, she said that one of them got stuck between the driftwood and glass but she freed it, but today she started swimming upside down and finally stopped swimming

    I'm really bummed about it.

When she fed them last night, caprica was sitting on the bottom aggravated looking, and Gaius came over and spit out some food next to her, and stuck around like he was trying to take care of her.

I got home today and buried her, and I'll miss her. She was a great little companion for Caprica, the pair of them were like little "water dogs" playing around in the tank all the time.

Pretty bummed about this. I don't think I can keep goldfish while moving to and from college. Would much rather keep something a little less important to me like a school of neon tetras but I can't give up Gaius... raised this one from a tiny little goldfish.

    Ugh.
