Default What causes a change in PH?

The PH from the tap is 8.0. In the tank it is 8.4. I have 3 driftwood pieces, flourite substrate, 2 square airstones and some java ferns.

No changes I assume? Something leaching into the water maybe?

How long has it been like that?

Since I set it up. When I add the water in a water change and when I set it up I noticed the PH was higher. I recheck the tap water and it is 8.0. And I even let the tap water sit out a bit and check and it is still 8.0. But this tank shortly after adding the water rises to 8.4.
Still not getting trates, trites, ammonnia readings. And nothing in the tap water either. This was a media seeded cycle and the tank that supplying the seeded media has PH of 8.0.

Edit these same driftwood pieces were in the other tank and did not affect PH

Did you test the tap right away or did you let it set out for 24 hours? Try to test the tap after resting the water a day. it could be CO2 gassing off from the tap water.

It was only about 12 hours. I will do 24.

Just take the tap water, boil it, let it cool and then test it. That way you can avoid letting it sit for 24 hours and you can find out now.
