New Angelfish!
I just bought a marble angelfish (mostly black). I was wondering if they are ok as one, or need to be a pair? I was going to get two, but I don't want two males fighting or anything. If they need to be a pair, then I'll get another one next weekend. This will also give my filter time to adapt to the new bioload. He's so calm, and loves all the real plants in my tank. Hopefully he'll make it. I read on here before that angelfish seem to be looking sickly in petstores these days. I watched him for a while before buying, I didn't see any gasping for air, he was swimming great, and comes to the front of the tank when I go near the glass. I'll wait and see how he/she is. I love it though.

I put it in the 40 with the black tetras and harlequin rasbora and BN pleco. One is a good number for me as well, I really don't want two. I am also planning on get more harlequin's (have 3 currenlty)

I'd go with one Angel. And frankly, I'm a bit jealous because my 29 is not ready for a Koi Angel, yet.
When in doubt, do a water change.

I just picked up what I believe is a Gold Marble Angel and he seems happy sitting in the 10 gallon hospital tank while I make sure he is healthy enough to move to my 45 gal. I know when I was looking around a lot of people on here said go with one and I am glad I did. He/She is so tiny and cute.

If you do decide to get a second or third make sure your de-territorise your tank. Angels have strong territorial boundaries so adding another of its species will be seen as an invader by the black resident angel.
Remove the black to a container with tank water. Move some of your tank 'furniture' around (plants, wood, stones etc) to make the space less familiar. Add the angel to the container with the black angel and cover (darken). Turn off the tank lights and add the pair. When you turn on the lights (after an hour or two) the angels will 'stake out' their claims and nine times out of ten, get along famously.
I have 7 angels in my 90gal community tank, added in three batches. No problems until they pair off - but that's breeding, and another story altogether!
Hope this helps,
