Head 1st
Hello everyone, I've been surfing here for a couple of weeks just to get the feel of the forum. I like it alot! You guys have really good information available, especially for a newbie like me. Well needless to say I dove
head 1st
into this aquarist business a little over a month ago. I started out with a very tall 2.5 gallon vase which I turned into a betta bowl and quickly became obsessed. In just a short time I now have 5 tanks! I eventually put the bowl away and put Azul in a 5 gallon tank. I fell in love with the tetra fish (all types) and the gold fish (all types). My golfish names are BeBe, JuJu, and Kacie. I must say that I did not follow many of the rules "required" to start up an aquarium, but so far so good. I did a lot of water changes every few days, checked my PH levels and used a water conditioner. I cycled my 1st 20 gallon tank for 3 days and then loaded it with fish and plants, a filter and a bubble thingy. I have some platy, ghost shrimp and one black molly and one male guppy with my tetras. I know I know, give me tips......
If the only thing you know is what you know, then I guess you know it all

Hi welcome to the AC!
I think your goldfish tank is well overstocked. The rule of thumb is 1 goldfish per 20g i believe. I don't keep them so I don't know for sure.
Make sure you use liquid testing chemicals and read the e-book.
Other than that, welcome once again!30g - Planted - need to do some serious rethinking
20g - planning

glad you are here.
if you haven't already, please read the free aquarium e book in the left hand menu.If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

overstocked
A 20-gallon tank is about right for one goldfish, with at least 10 additional gallons per adult goldfish. I will be moving to a larger tank when they are older with probably 3 more goldfish. They grow fast but currently are only about 2.5 inches.

Test
I only did a PH test about two weeks ago. I don't do anything other than watch the water and I go by smell. I do 40% water changes every 3 or 4 days with conditioner. They seem to be very happy and FAT. They already follow me around the room when I get close so I think that they are adapting well.
