Does your water leave hard water deposits in your sink, showere etc? If so its likely alkaline. Alkaline is just a word that describes a solution with a pH >7.0. If your water is acidic you can add crushed coral to your filter to raise the pH.

Even so I wouldn't mess with the pH especially if you go with something easy like platys. Mine breed like rabbits and will give you plenty of fry.

Alkaline refers to a ph greater than neutral (7.0) so you can buffer it up with crushed coral. Avoid chemicals, they tend to be unstable.

What size tank are you planning to use? You'll need at least a 10 gallon if you plan on breeding guppies because they breed fast and in great numbers the bioload can be pretty high and this can slow the growth on the babies, so it'll take longer for them to grow while the parents are still popping out more youngsters so it just keeps getting higher...

Sounds like a plan, I got one last question I think before you commit to guppies...

Are you doing this for fun or to try and make money off of it? If you want money out of this, you're going to want to look at either specific strains of guppies or some other type of fish as well.

Na not the money I just want to raise some fry and help people out who dont have enough money to afford fish. So I would give them away for free or dirt cheap.

I'd say guppies. I agree with nwnittany, its hard getting to them NOT to breed.

I think guppies would be awesome even for the different types and colors. Any tips for them I might need to no?

Some live plants are helpful for fry to take cover among; they also support a host of micro-critters that new fry will enjoy snacking on. Microworms are great to have on hand as well, fry and adults will eat them.

Yes Guppies, Platies. Very easy to breed fish. Although there are many other types out there.

As suggested a planted tank, slightly alkaline works great.
From what I have read changing males every now and then. Just so they don't inbreed to much.

    Good luck.
