PetCO
I know someone posted about Petsmart... but today I went to a Petco!
I was impressed! First, the prices! OMG... like $1.00 for tetras! Really cheap on other fish too, and the tanks were clean! I only saw one Oscar that was acting badly (IMO).
But the rest of the fish looked GREAT! I WILL be getting some of those fish in the near future!

I thought your house wasn't big enough for another tank!
Did you get a trailor to sleep in and finally get rid of the bed?

LOL Did you sell the living room furniture?????
I do not think we have a petco here.
The way I figure it with enough silicone and proper filtration we should be able to turn our homes into huge tanks....I am still working on that theory......LOLGayle

Our petco just moved to a new location and the fish section is impressive. Its huge and in the center of the store. All tanks are very clean with no dead fish, fish were clearly marked. Even the saltwater fish looked great. Lets see if it looks that way a year from now

I'm begging to wonder if the "real fish stores" are really any better! After all, my regular fish place had anchor woms on some of their fish!

good shops are few and far between, most don't care, they make more money from selling Meds, etc than they do from fish.

i think it all has to do with the dedication and knowledge of the staff. i have been going to the same store for 30 years, it's privately owned but the original owner has retired and turned it over to her son. i've noticed the quality of care for the fish has gone down dramatically over the last year or so. we are getting a petsmart soon and i was actually thinking about going in and checking them out.
If it's called tourist season why can't I shoot them?
Brutal honesty will be shown on this screen.
I think my fish is adjusting well to the four gallon, He's laying on his side attempting to go to sleep on the bottom of the gravel.
Tolerance is a great thing to have, so is the ability to shut up.

Is this the Portsmouth Petco? I was there yesterday and was really impressed, they had some AMAZING bettas and I had to force myself to walk away. I think their live plant selection got better too. However, I walked around the fish/reptile section for twenty minutes looking for the freezer for frozen food and couldn't find it anywhere! I went there for frozen rats and super worms. It was so busy I couldn't find someone to ask, so I asked the girl at the register who told me the frozen rats were in the fish section... I'll have to look harder next time

The selections at stores around here is awesome! It's the care I've always had issues with... The Petco here isn't too bad. They at least make an effort to keep the dead out of the tanks.

Petco really depends on the employees and their fish turnover. The one near me is spotless but the fish in some tanks are pretty unhealthy. The large angels were listless and one even had a deep gash in his side. The flame gourami tank, most of the fish were missing their barbels and in another most of their fins were gone. I think it had to do with their turnover and the fish were showing signs of being confined in their tanks. I got 5 corys from there and they were obviously new since they were zooming around the tank like crazy. The small angel I got was also very healthy. Most of their larger fish seemed to be on death's doorstep.
